About the Artist - Kathy Gray Art of the Wave

For as long as I can remember, my childhood days were filled with the joy of creating, often depicting horses and the natural world. I would spend hours upon hours, disconnected from the world around me, drawing, colouring, painting from the images in my mind. This childhood passion, (which as a nine year old, I was rewarded with a Blue Peter badge for my creative interpretation of the Amazon rainforest!), quickly blossomed into a profound fascination with the ocean, its mysterious depths, incredible creatures, and vibrant ecosystems. Simultaneously, I was deeply curious about the human mind, consciousness, and why people behave the way they do. This early intrigue later led me to explore the intricacies of the human psyche as a psychology lecturer, yet the call of artistic expression, specifically of the sea, was never far.

At ArtoftheWave.co.uk, I've found a way to beautifully intertwine these powerful forces: the ocean and the human psyche. Years of self-taught dedication have been spent observing the ocean's myriad forms, from the gentle ebb and flow to the crashing power of a storm. This deep study has revealed a profound truth: the ocean's different states mirror our human emotions and experiences. I believe the ocean is a powerful source for our mental health and well-being, offering an empowering connection through practices like Mindfulness. My artwork aims to bring this healing and energising power of the ocean directly into your home, serving as a catalyst for reflection and introspection. Each piece is designed to be timeless, allowing viewers to discover their own unique meaning. However, many are imbued with psychological undercurrents, drawing from Humanism and Jungian theory, to convey an empowering message of hope and resilience that resonates deeply with the human spirit. It is also a heartfelt plea, as Guardians of Mother Earth, for us to protect these vital waters, knowing that the planet and our own well-being depend on them.
